Dress Code

Classes Explained   Classes Offered   Class Prices

All items can be purchased at:
Dance Box on North Road, Limbers in Surrey, Jazz-ma-tazz in Maple Ridge, or check the Yellow Pages. Note: We also have a small store onsite where many of the items can be purchased at discount prices.

All clothes must be cotton/lycra or spandex. Absolutely no pockets, ties, zippers, fly’s, belt loops, or sweatpants. Students MUST be in dance attire.

BALLET

Pre-Dance 1 & 2

Dress Code - Ballet - Pre-Dance 1&2Girls

  • Pale Pink Short-Sleeved Leotard (body suit)
  • White Ankle Socks
  • Pink full-sole leather ballet slippers with elastics, strings tied and tucked in
  • Pink chiffon skirt (optional) No Tutu!
  • Hair in a pony tail, braids or a bun, if hair is short it must be well groomed and a headband must be worn to secure the hair

Boys

  • White fitted “T” shirt
  • Navy or Black dance shorts
  • White full-sole leather ballet slippers with elastics, strings tied and tucked in
  • White ankle socks
  • Hair well groomed

Pre-Primary & Primary

GirlsDress Code - Ballet - Pre-Primary/Primary

  • Pale Pink Short-Sleeved Leotard (body suit)
  • White Ankle Socks
  • Pink full-sole leather ballet slippers with elastics, strings tied and tucked in
  • Pale Pink Regulation mid-thigh length skirt
  • Hair in a bun (using an elastic, hair pins and a hair net or bun cover); if hair is short it must be well groomed and a headband must be worn to secure the hair

Boys

  • White fitted “T” shirt
  • Navy dance shorts
  • White full-sole leather ballet slippers with elastics, strings tied and tucked in
  • White ankle socks
  • Hair well groomed

RAD Grade 1 & 2 Ballet

Girls

  • Light blue tank body suit
  • Light blue 2cm/¾ ” waist elastic
  • White Ankle Socks
  • Pink full-sole leather ballet slippers with elastics, strings tied and tucked in
  • Black character skirt (circle skirt 3” below the knee) with blue ribbons (exam classes only)
  • Black low heel character shoes with pink elastic (exam classes only)
  • Hair in a bun (using an elastic, hair pins and a hair net or bun cover); if hair is short it must be well groomed and a headband must be worn to secure the hair

Boys

  • White fitted “T” shirt
  • Navy dance shorts
  • White full-sole leather ballet slippers with elastics, strings tied and tucked in

RAD Grade 3, 4, & 5 Ballet

  • Navy 2cm/¾ ” waist elastic
  • Ballet Pink tights
  • Pink full-sole leather ballet slippers with elastics, strings tied and tucked in
  • Black character skirt (circle skirt 3” below the knee) with ribbons
  • Black High heel character shoes with pink elastic
  • Hair in a bun (using an elastic, hair pins and a hair net or bun cover); if hair is short it must be well groomed and a headband must be worn to secure the hair

  • Black character skirt (circle skirt 3” below the knee) with ribbons
  • Black High heel character shoes with pink elastic
  • Hair in a classical bun (high, no bangs, using an elastic, hair pins and a hair net); if hair is short it must be well groomed and a headband must be worn to secure the hair

Pointe Junior & Senior

Girls

  • Any Dark, Solid Coloured Leotard
  • Ballet Pink tights
  • Pink hard Pointe shoes with ribbons (must be fitted by teacher or have shoes approved by teacher before sewing on ribbons)
  • Hair in a classical bun (high, no bangs, using an elastic, hair pins and a hair net); if hair is short it must be well groomed and a headband must be worn to secure the hair

Recreational BalletDress Code - Recreational Ballet

Girls

  • Black Leotard (body suit)
  • Ballet Pink tights
  • Pink full-sole leather ballet slippers, strings tied and tucked in
  • Hair in a classical bun (high, no bangs, using an elastic, hair pins and a hair net); if hair is short it must be well groomed and a headband must be worn to secure the hair

TAP

Clothes

GirlsDress Code - Tap

  • Dance Leotard (bodysuit) or biketard; any kind.
  • Can be worn with lycra shorts or chiffon skirt.
  • Tights or bare legs can be worn with above
  • Knees must be visible at all times.
  • Proper tap shoes reflecting level must be worn (see below).
  • Hair in a pony tail, braids or a bun, if hair is short it must be well groomed and a headband must be worn to secure the hair.

Boys

  • Fitted ‘T’ shirts or tanks
  • Dance shorts
  • Knees must be visible at all times.
  • Proper tap shoes reflecting level must be worn (see below).
  • Hair well groomed

Shoes

Girls

  • Pre-Tap:
    • Black patent leather (Mary Jane style)
  • Red Star, Blue Star & Yellow Star: 
    • ~ Black patent leather or flat leather
    • ~ Capezio Mary Jane 3800C or Bloch tap-on S0302L
  • Bronze Lower and up:
    • Black Oxford tap shoes ~ Bloch, Capezio (3 screw)

Boys

  • All levels – black oxford tap shoes

Recreational/Beginner tap

  • Any black tap shoes

JAZZ

Girls

  • Dance Leotard (body suit) of any kind, with tights, jazz pants or bike shorts or Unitard or Biketard
  • Black Split Sole Jazz Shoes with laces or boot style
  • Hair in a pony tail, braids or a bun, if hair is short it must be well groomed and a headband must be worn to secure the hair
  • Absolutely no sweat pants, T-shirts or sports bras allowed!
  • Jazz Pants cannot touch the floor.
  • No hoop or dangling earrings.
  • Please do not wear jewelry to class. ie. rings, watches, etc.

Boys

  • Fitted “T” shirt or tank
  • Dance shorts or black jazz pants
  • Black Split Sole Jazz Shoes with laces or boot style
  • White ankle socks

  • Clean non-marking sneakers (no street shoes)

COSTUMES

  • Costumes are a vital part of any performance art, and all students performing in our annual recital will require one for each class they are in. We have a wonderful seamstress who measures and makes the costumes for each dancer. Recreational classes are usually about $65 - $70 and competitive classes are generally $75 - $80.
